Privacy policy

ABill is a local-first app: your data stays under your control, on your device and — if you keep iCloud sync on — in your own private iCloud. We run no server and do not collect, transmit or host any personal data.

No data collection

Everything you enter is stored on your device (via SwiftData) and is never sent to us:

• your receipts (merchant, date, amount, currency, notes, line items);
• the receipt images you scan or import;
• no account, no identifier and no email address are requested;
• we run no server of our own and perform no tracking or analytics; the only possible syncing goes through your private iCloud (see below).

iCloud sync

By default, ABill syncs your receipts across the Apple devices signed in to your account, via iCloud. This uses your own private iCloud space — not a server we operate:

• your receipts and their images are stored in your private iCloud database, which we cannot access;
• the data is encrypted by iCloud in transit and at rest;
• you can turn sync off at any time in Settings › iCloud (it takes effect on the next launch); ABill then works entirely offline;
• iCloud sync is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.

Device permissions

The app may ask for access to certain device features, only to process them locally:

• Camera — to scan a receipt. The image is processed on the device and stored locally.
• Photo library — to import an existing receipt image. Only the images you pick are read.
• Text recognition — performed on the device via Apple's Vision framework, with nothing sent to the cloud.
• Notifications — to remind you when your items' warranties are about to expire. Reminders are scheduled and shown locally, with no server-sent push.

No third parties

ABill includes no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no third-party SDKs. Your data is never sold or shared with third parties for advertising or commercial purposes (iCloud sync, described above, remains your own personal storage with Apple).

Sharing .bill files

You can export a receipt as a ".bill" file and share it through the iOS share sheet. This sharing is always initiated by you, to recipients you choose; we play no part in it.

Data retention

Your data stays available until you delete it in the app. Deleting a receipt also removes it from your iCloud when sync is on. Uninstalling ABill erases the local data; any iCloud copy remains and can be managed from your device's iCloud settings. You keep full control over it at all times.

Your rights

Since we hold no data about you, you exercise your rights directly on your device:

• Access — all your data is viewable in the app, and exportable as .bill files.
• Erasure — delete a receipt in the app — the deletion propagates to your devices via iCloud. To erase the iCloud copy, manage ABill's data in your device's iCloud settings.
• Rectification — edit a receipt's contents at any time from the detail screen.
• Complaint — you may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Security

Your data benefits from iOS system protections: app sandboxing and device encryption. Enable a device passcode to strengthen this protection.

Changes

This policy may be updated if the app evolves. The date above indicates the latest version.
